THE SECOND SEA VOYAGE OF THE POLISH NATIONAL RADIO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
IN KATOWICE UNDER THE FLAG OF CHOPIN
Copenhagen - Goeteborg - Oslo - Dover - Boulogne-sur-Mer - Gdynia

Chopin Year 2010 established by the Parliament of the Republic of Poland has become an unrepeatable opportunity to commemorate the person and works of one of the greatest artists in the history of Polish culture. Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice contributing to international celebrations of the Year and fulfilling its mission of representing the country abroad intends to organise a spectacular event – i.e. voyage on the most beautiful Polish sailboat - Dar Młodzieży. The ship with the Orchestra on its board shall arrive in ports of Copenhagen (7 September 2010), Goeteborg (9 September 2010), Oslo (11 September 2010), Dover (16 September 2010), Boulogne-sur-Mer (17 September 2010) in order to present local audience in concert halls works of Fryderyk Chopin on the 200th anniversary of his birth. The last stage of the voyage shall refer to his historic travel from France to Great Britain. As it was possible to verify, the artist flew from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Folkstone, in order to reach London by train (return journey was held in the same route). The journey shall be finished with the concert at Gdynia Grunwaldzki Square, during which Polish audience shall participate in this great international event.

In the indicated cities the orchesra conducted by Jacek Kaspszyk, musical director of National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, with participation of French pianist Philippe Giusano (who replace Ewa Kupiec) - shall perform works of Chopin: Fantasy on Polish Airs for piano and orchestra as well as Andante spianato and Grand Polonaise in E flat major as well as referring to the sea character of our journey - symphonic poem The Sea by Claude Debussy. The greeting and surely surprise for Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English and French audience will be the presentation of a work of sea theme of their national composers i.e. Carl Nielsen, Roman Maciejewski (in Goeteborg he spent many years of his life; his 100th birth anniversary), Edvard Grieg, Benjamin Britten and Claude Debussy.
