AUKSO

The AUKSO Chamber Orchestra of the City of Tychy.
Founded in February 1998 at the initiative of young graduates of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice and Marek Moś, an eminent violinist, conductor and chamber musician, AUKSO (from Greek ‘growth’) has become a symbol of their aspirations and a lodestar for the professional development of its members. Its name emphasises the necessity of constant improvement and creative development and the importance of taking on new and uncommon challenges. For more than fifteen years the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra has been giving concerts in Poland and abroad — in Italy, Spain, Brazil, Germany, Austria, Denmark, France, Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania and China — throughout this time cooperating with such outstanding artists as Piotr Anderszewski, Rudolf Barshai, Howard Shelley, Andrzej Bauer, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Marc Minkowski, Jacek Kaspszyk, Daniele Alberti, Kaja Danczowska, Agata Szymczewska, Władysław Kłosiewicz, Janusz Olejniczak, Olga Pasiecznik, Sergiej Krylov and the Hilliard Ensemble.
AUKSO has performed in many festivals, such as the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, SESC São Paulo, Wratislavia Cantans, Warsaw Autumn, Auditorio Palacio de Congresos da Saragossa, Caja Duero, Star Festival in Międzyzdroje, Festival Sotto La Rocca in Italy, Sacrum Profanum, Film Music Festival in Kraków, Four Cultures’ Dialogue Festival, and Jazz Jamboree. It boasts twenty nine CD recordings, including Polish contemporary music by Grażyna Bacewicz, Witold Lutosławski, Wojciech Kilar, Paweł Mykietyn and Zbigniew Preisner. Its recent record, prepared and published in cooperation with Katowice City of Gardens Cultural Institution, comprises works by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki.
AUKSO is also active in the borderland, bringing together classical tunes, jazz and rock, looking for whatever they share and skillfully playing with elements that keep them apart, juxtaposing their different music languages. The orchestra has performed and recorded with such eminent artists as Leszek Możdżer, Tomasz Stańko, Urszula Dudziak, Michał Urbaniak, Andrzej Jagodziński, Motion Trio and Voo Voo.
AUKSO is growing. With each season the musicians expand their repertoire, come back to places they know very well and accept new invitations. Winning ever wider audiences and drawing increasing numbers of enthusiasts of the art they offer, they have grown into one of Europe’s foremost chamber orchestras, an ensemble which combines versatility with conscious concern for creativity and individualism.
In 2014 the f.o.r.t.e. Foundation bought first master instruments for the AUKSO musicians — a project co-financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage within the framework of the Development of Cultural Infrastructure programme.
